Empowering Pupils Through Adventure and Achievement

At Tower College, we are proud to offer our pupils in Upper school the opportunity to participate in the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award—a prestigious programme that fosters personal growth, resilience, and a sense of community responsibility. This initiative aligns with our commitment to providing a well-rounded education that prepares students for the challenges of the future.

Programme Overview

The Bronze DofE Award is structured around three core sections, each requiring a commitment of 12 hours over a three-month period:

  • Physical: Engaging in regular physical activity to improve fitness and wellbeing.
  • Skill: Developing a new skill or enhancing an existing one.
  • Volunteering: Contributing time to help individuals or the community.

Participants are expected to dedicate one hour per week to each section. An introductory session will be held before half-term to guide pupils in selecting suitable activities and to provide detailed information for parents.

Training and Expedition

Pupils will engage in both in-school and offsite training sessions to prepare for the expedition component of the award. These sessions will cover navigation skills, campcraft, and other essential expedition competencies.

The pupils will take part in both a practice expedition and a qualifying expedition. This will consist of two days of walking and one night of camping. Tower College staff will supervise the expedition, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.

Equipment Provided

Participants will be supplied with the following equipment:

  • Tents
  • Stoves, pans, and fuel
  • Group shelter
  • Group first aid kit
  • Maps and compasses
  • Rucksacks and liners (if needed)
  • High-visibility rucksack covers

After-School Training Sessions

To further prepare pupils for the expedition, we will conduct additional after-school training sessions.

  • Bronze package: £28
  • AAP (camp fees and main camp equipment): £200
