Lower School

Nurturing Young Minds at Tower College

At Tower College, our Lower School offers an exceptional educational experience for children aged 5 to 11. We focus on developing core skills through a broad curriculum and a stimulating range of enrichment activities. Our caring approach in a safe environment allows children to flourish, fostering a love of learning and preparing them for future academic success.

Academic Excellence and Personal Growth

Literacy and numeracy are prioritised, with an emphasis on developing reasoning and evaluative skills. We are guided by the national curriculum, however, we utilise our unique position as an independent school to create our own bespoke curriculum which builds on the interests of our pupils, making their learning relevant and purposeful. Our daily teaching is enhanced with additional elements to ensure a solid educational foundation for life inside and outside of school. Our innovative teaching methods encourage creativity, independent learning, and teamwork.

Through our Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) programme, we ensure all children develop a sense of identity and self-confidence. Regular recognition of achievement motivates pupils to set and pursue their own goals. Educational trips and visiting speakers further enrich the learning experience.

Enrichment Opportunities

Our Lower School enrichment programme offers a diverse range of activities to support holistic development:

Forest School and Outdoor Learning

Each week pupils receive targeted lessons based in our outdoor classrooms where they explore our stunning grounds, learning about nature and the environment and developing a range of important life skills

Swimming

Lessons begin in Year 3 and continue throughout Lower School developing pupils’ coordination and motor skills, promoting physical strength and fitness, supporting cognitive development and teaching essential water safety skills.

Playground Friends

Pupils from Year 4 onwards can apply to become a Playground Friend. This role includes weekly training to enable them to provide support to younger pupils and peers during playtimes. Through this, our Playground Friends develop skills of communication, leadership, problem solving and mediation.

Music Tuition

Our pupils have the opportunity to learn to play a range of instruments, taught by specialist teachers on a one-to-one basis. (additional charges apply)

Choir

Our Lower School choir meets weekly to develop vocal talents, listening skills and teamwork as they prepare for a number of performances throughout the year.

Extra-Curricular Clubs

Each term, pupils are able to access a range of lunchtime and after school clubs including Dance, Science, Art, Nature, Gardening, Martial Arts, Football, Kimball, Games and Lego among others.

A Supportive and Inclusive Environment

Our small class sizes and dedicated teaching staff ensure personalised attention for each pupil. We promote a culture of respect, kindness, and integrity, aligning with our core values. Children are encouraged to support one another, fostering a strong sense of community.

Preparing for the Future

As pupils progress through Lower School, they build the confidence and skills necessary for the next stage of their education. Our comprehensive approach ensures that each child is well-prepared academically, socially, and emotionally for the challenges ahead.
