INAUGURAL MEETING of the Parent Council
Over the coming weeks and months you will be hearing a great deal about the Parent Council and how easy, undemanding and rewarding it can be to get involved.
Earlier in the year, a number of parents and Tower College staff met at the Blue Mango Restaurant in Rainhill. It was a wonderful evening enjoyed by all. Its success was largely because everyone present had exactly the same reason for being there: the desire to help Tower College to be the best school possible for its children, staff and parents. So, in response to this, Miss Oxley decided that a more formal parent body should be created with regular meetings fixed into the school calendar.
Our hopes for the Parent Council
To have a vibrant, enthusiastic parent community that supports, engages and communicates with our school to help provide the best possible education and learning experience for our children. Parents really can make a difference to children’s learning and latest research shows that when parents are involved, children do better and achieve more.
We currently have a very healthy quota of current parents that are members of ‘Friends of Tower College’ and we would like all these parents to become members of the Tower College Parent Council.
The main functions of the Parent Council are to:
- Support the school in its work with pupils and parents;
- Represent the views of parents;
- Promote contact and communication between the school, parents, pupils, and the community;
- Meet with the Tower College School Council to share views and evaluate the effectiveness of both bodies;
How do I get involved?
Come to the meeting!
Thursday, 9th November, 2017 at 4 pm in the Jubilee Hall.
The first Parent Council meeting will be focusing on a ‘Christmas Extravaganza’ for parents and friends of Tower College. Join the Parent Council to support and plan this exciting evening of food and entertainment when we will also raise funds for school activities and events. The frequency of the meetings will also be decided and the dates entered into the school calendar.
Any parent wishing to leave their child in ‘Twilight Club’ will not be charged but please let the school office know beforehand that you are intending to come to the meeting and will be using ‘Twilight’.
However, not all parents have to be a formal member of the Parent Council. You don’t even have to come to any meetings; we have created an online cloud-based portal that any parent is more than welcome to join and let their voice be heard.
All any parent needs to do is send an email to Mr Taylor (email@example.com) requesting that they would like to be a member. A return email will be sent with an invitation to subscribe to the portal.
